I prefer to express myself through film and photography, so it’s hard for me to find the right words to describe just how momentous, life changing, beautiful and powerful birth is.
Since becoming a Mother and experiencing birth myself, I realised birth is the ultimate, unscripted expression of life and love, and there is no greater moment worth capturing on film.
The birth of Jonty
It was an honour to be invited to film the home birth of Jonty, the third beautiful babe of Jess and Josh.
Jess had a slow and steady labour on a chilly winter evening in June last year. Jonty was born in the lounge room of their home, surrounded by loving friends and their two children Archie and Pippa.
Why is it so important to capture your birth story?
Why do I love filming births and capturing mothers with their babies?
Because you mumma, are doing the most important job in the world.
Creating and caring for the future of the human race.
And you deserve to be seen.
You are loving, sacrificing and putting the needs of others first.
And you deserve to be seen.
You are doing this work in a society that holds such little space for mothers and women.
And you deserve to be seen.
If only by yourself.
For yourself.
As a reminder that everything you achieved was real, and full of love and hope and strength and grace.
And that should never be forgotten.
